As a fledging entrepreneur, I thought it might be interesting to share my journey with others. I’ll treat this blog as more of a diary- a place to explore thoughts and share some learnings as I make my second career transition (I previously had moved from medicine to business). I am also the author of another blog– this one a more professional blog on consumerism and healthcare.
I’m in the process of starting 3 businesses: independent consulting to pay the bills, a catering business that is my wife’s dream, and a healthcare internet company (HealthShoppr) that is my dream– a way to change the system of healthcare into one that is more affordable and meets the needs of the average consumer.
Health Shoppr can best be described as Expedia meets E-harmony for healthcare providers, allowing consumers to determine which providers will best meet their needs at the right price. The goal is to create a new, retail based system for buying healthcare that puts the consumer in charge, using provider differentiation to meet long-tail needs.
You may ask where I then get the time to write 2 blogs– and you’d be right in assuming I don’t have many hobbies at the moment. I’m newly married and back from a wonderful honeymoon in Kauai, and so now we’re enjoying the process of building our lives and businesses together. I am, however, also looking to lose an additional 25 lbs that I put on while at McKinsey, so I may post along those lines as well.
This blog will be about my life in starting businesses– and I hope my learnings help others along the way. I hope at least a few people find this journey interesting and come along for the ride!
Yours truly,
Vijay
